چکیده

Astaxanthin is increasingly attracting commercial interest for its application in the nutraceutical and pharmaceutical industries. This study aimed to produce astaxanthin from molasses with our newly mutated strain of Rhodosporidium toruloides G17 evaluate biological activities produced astaxanthin. To maximize yield, response surface methodology was used so as optimize culture conditions. A maximum yield 1262.08 ± 14.58 µg/L achieved by growing R. a molasses-based medium containing 49.39 g/L reducing sugar, 1.00 urea, 4.15 MgSO4·7H2O, 10.05% inoculum ratio. The then purified studied antioxidant anticancer activities. compound exhibited 123-fold higher activity than α-tocopherol, an IC50 value 0.97 0.01 µg/mL. also showed potent inhibitory ability against following three cancer cell lines: HeLa, A549, MCF7, values 69.07 2.4 µg/mL, 55.60 2.64 56.38 4.1 respectively. indicates that derived promising agent further applications.

The Production, Regulation and Extraction of Carotenoids from Rhodosporidium toruloides

Carotenoids are valuable pigments of commercial interest for various health benefits. There is rising demand for natural carotenoids from microorganisms, although the majority of industrially produced carotenoids are currently chemically synthesized. Rhodosporidium toruloides is oleaginous red yeast, which can produce large amounts of carotenoids and lipids simultaneously. It is also able to as...

Purification and characterization of a cephalosporin esterase from Rhodosporidium toruloides.

A novel cephalosporin esterase (EC 3.1.1.41) from Rhodosporidium toruloides was purified to gel electrophoretic homogeneity. The enzyme is a glycoprotein with a molecular mass of 80 kDa. Upon deglycosylation, several forms of the enzyme were observed with a molecular mass range between 60 and 66 kDa. The isoelectric point of the enzyme is approximately 5.6, with the pH optimum for activity occu...

Lipid production by Rhodosporidium toruloides Y2 in bioethanol wastewater and evaluation of biomass energetic yield.

The oleaginous yeast Rhodosporidium toruloides Y2 was employed to remove waste nutrients from bioethanol wastewater while simultaneously producing biomass enriched in microbial lipids. Under optimal conditions, the COD degradation ratio, biomass and lipid content reached 72.3%, 3.8 g/l and 34.9%, respectively. For accelerating biomass and lipid accumulation, different feeding strategies of subs...

Enhanced lipid production by Rhodosporidium toruloides using different fed-batch feeding strategies with lignocellulosic hydrolysate as the sole carbon source

BACKGROUND Industrial biotechnology that is able to provide environmentally friendly bio-based products has attracted more attention in replacing petroleum-based industries. Currently, most of the carbon sources used for fermentation-based bioprocesses are obtained from agricultural commodities that are used as foodstuff for human beings. Lignocellulose-derived sugars as the non-food, green, an...

Concomitant Production of Lipids and Carotenoids in Rhodosporidium toruloides under Osmotic Stress Using Response Surface Methodology

As a replacement to existing fossil fuels, biofuels, have proven their worth; however, their widespread use is limited due to inconsistent yields, higher costs and poor productivity. An oleaginous yeast, Rhodosporidium toruloides has been reported to accumulate substantial amounts of lipids (that can be converted to biofuels) and therefore, it was selected for study and optimization. Apart from...
